While a lot of casting has produced limited results here on the home water, a more comprehensive search will be undertaken on Monday to find those elusive largemouths. Instead of spinnerbaits and Carolina rigs, I’m joining a DFG crew for the annual spring survey–in the electro-shock boat.
No getting around it, despite high water and even some planted fish, the bass bite has been tough to figure. Some fish have come from shore in inlet channel, but the main lake has been a puzzle. Everyone is hoping that, just like last summer, once the water heats up, the fish will have to get active and there will be lots of action.
In the meantime, there is so much cover, you never know if you are in the right spot.
What a difference 13 months makes. In April of 2009, while the TV cameras were running, the lake was at its best. The result of just a morning of fishing was enough to produce a couple of shows for Ronnie Kovach on Fox Sports West.
Ironically, the episode of his Fishing Ventures called “The Secret of Lake Elsinore” will be broadcast this Sunday with a reprise on Tuesday, according to show producer Danny Jackson. Specifically, they will air Sunday, May 16 – 9:30 a.m. and again on Tuesday, May 18 – 2:30 p.m.
Still, I’m anxious to see what the current fish survey turns up. Because we’re going to start very early instead of working overnight, I may have some photos of what we find. If I do, I’ll be posting late Monday.

Could not guarantee they could get enough in the morning to warrant paying for disposal. But the bowfishermen are starting to whack them at the south end, Rich.

Rough fish removal opportunity?
