The topic has come up from time to time (north of San Diego) wondering if the FlutterCraft brand is still around or is it possible to get certain baits–particularly the worm known as the Screamer.
Of course, the answer is “Yes.” Frank and Jeanne Pasalich of Poway not only own the Fisherman’s Outpost tackle shop, their building also includes the manufacturing equipment for molding all of the old FlutterCraft plastics.
That’s not to say every shape is available currently. “I hope to push some more out as soon as I can,” Frank told me today as I drove down to Poway from Lake Wohlford. But he has some popular ones in stock including the original 4-inch curl tail (the tiny thin one), plus the “fishee” style, and one that really prompted me to make the drive farther south–the Screamer. Not only is it a great finesse worm, the smallest of all the ribbon tail plastics is also a great trailer, touted to me by Bill Siemantel.
We loved the bait when Ray Poppa owned the company, but it kind of faded out about the time the little worm hit the market. As a point of interest, the Lakeland Company was the original molder of these plastics and Pasalich purchased everything that was available in molds and injectors and set up shop in Poway.
So, in answer to the question? Yes, you can still get ‘em.
