Okay, the sale of “assets” from Genmar is a big deal. But assets are not only boat lines, but also the properties where manufacturing is located, all the equipment (and material on hand) used to construct boats, plus, for that matter, all the computers and office furniture in their respective offices.
In a court-authorized sale, buyers can purchase what they want from brands like Champion as done previously, or Stratos or the gem, Ranger, which might still go to a “Forrest Wood” consortium including the founder and former employees.
But what will emerge will not be the bonus tossing, pro-backing, memo dealing company of old. Ask anybody who has priced a new rig and they will tell you, where Ranger has gone, nobody can afford. And once a boating public changes its buying habits (and decides it can make do with a much smaller outlay–even an aluminum) then the market for these excellent, but luxury-priced vessels will dwindle.
It’s true. If Tiger Woods can’t sell me a Buick, then Jimmy Reese sure can’t sell me a Ranger.
Still talking finances, I figured out how to match the Mega Bass/Lucky Craft price point so you can fish with all the high rollers. Go to Wal-Mart, buy a $3 Bandit crankbait and put two $8.99 SpinTech trebles on it. BANG! 21 bucks!
Really, BasStar Baits, has introduced the most expensive (though innovative) treble hooks ever offered. The three points of the SpinTech hook revolve around the main shaft/line tie, which allows the point to turn with, rather than fight against the torque of a head-shaking fish.
Of course, nothing turns a $60 bait into an $80 model faster than this after-market upgrade. And though they are not suited for adding a feather and Mylar for a trailer, I’m sure you could turn a $4 Pop R into a $16 Rico in no-time, with just one no. 4 SpinTech on the belly. But really, you could go with any hard bait you like, given the SpinTech’s come in everything from no. 6 to 3/0 right now.
Now, understand, I like innovation and maybe I’m just lucky. But I can’t remember losing a popper fish throughout a whole summer of topwater action, so forgive me if I just keep using the 50 cent trebles.
Of course, the whole Ranger deal could really play into the luxury hook market. Knock off 10 grand from the boat purchase and you can splurge on a couple dozen $9 trebles.

Does not a paper graph locate the fish and bait as well as an HD Unit? or are we all so caught up in the Newer is Better crap.So we cant go fish a team tournament uless we have the Latest and Best technology has to offer? Or is that just what the Salesmen want us to believe?
This Genmar bankruptcy will actually make Irwin Jacobs money. He is known in the business world as someone who strategically enters bankruptcy and then sells assets that are valued individually greater than the company as a whole.
And who cares how much you make on boat sales when FLW is making 75 mil a year… or was… probably in the 35-40 range now
1bigbass, I’m not sure what you are saying here. I’m not trying to sell you anything. My point is that things get better and better every year. We have 50 cent hooks and 9.00 hooks. 200.00 fishfinders and 2500.00 fishfinders. All these things are made to improve our fish catching ability. Not sure about locating ability of the Papergraph. If you like the papergraph then by all means use it. I just used it as an example. Computer or typwriter….I say computer. Papergraph or LCD/HD I say LCD/HD. My opinion. But hey since you mentioned it, I do have a great deal on an LCX37.
My point is have our catch ratios improved as dramatically as as our money spent on the latest and greatest?
It still comes down to the art of finding and catching bass.Which can be done without all the lastest high priced(good commisions) gadgets.
Every year a new Dramatically Improved(must have)hits the floor and we are expected to support the Industry with our pocketbook.
So how much for the LCX37?? ( I gotta have it )
Yes sir/maam I honestly believe they have improved my fish catching ability. I speak for myself. Great tool for finding and catching fish, even those hard to get suspended fish.
Why don’t you and I hit El Cap one day and check these things out?
I wish we did get a commision for selling fish finders. We sure sell alot of them, people are upgrading all the time. If we did get a commision it would be around 10 bucks or so.
Thanks for your interest in the LCX37C combo unit it is $1,399.00. Give me a call 619-449-3474 Thanks

You’re correct. Not everyone can afford a high end Ranger, Champion, Nitro or Stratos, that’s why all the brands have boats in the 20K range. Not everyone can afford a Mercedes either. That’s life. Do folks still use a typewriter and a Paper Graph? Computers and an HD unit’s can cost a lot of cheese.
