New from LamiglasThe surprise exit of Skeet Reese from the Lamiglas fold has been interpreted in many different ways, but in fact, when one door closes, another one usually opens up.

And if the bass market is going to see an expanded introduction of rods in the $100 range from a new player (such as Wright & McGill this Wednesday at the ICAST show in Orlando), Lamiglas it turns out, is ready to meet that new challenge with a handsome line-up of its own.

The Lamiglas Excel Bass series has a limited number of models, but they have hit the core needs of bass fishermen with three 7-foot spinning rods, all one-piece, and seven casting rods, four at 7-feet (including a glass cranker), a couple at 7-3  for frogs and jigs, plus a 7-11 for swimbaits and other heavier work.

The pictured rods are prototypes so the graphic on the finished models will be a bit different than what you see, but the “look” will be the same–which you will have to agree, is pretty clean. And needless to say, $99 on the spinning models and $109 to $119 on the casting rods is a departure from what the market has been hammering us with over the last five or more years. So that’s one door ajar.

And from a promotional side, if not Reese, then who? In California, who’s visible, engaging, talented and marketable?

Answer: The guy or guys who will get the gig–that’s who.
