Tami Jennings Curtis (Tami on Tour) didn’t flinch on her second day at Lake Oroville, weighing in 9 pounds, 5 ounces today to earn a tie for fifth spot among co-anglers with 17 pounds, 4 ounces.

Shaking off the loss of a big fish Thursday, she moved onto the finals in the Stren Series western division, where the top 10 pros and top 10 co-anglers are paired.

On the phone she told me, “We just came back from the pre-tournament meeting for the finals. It’s so exciting, it’s my first time!”

But waiting through the last anglers to weigh-in, there was some tension. “Even when I thought I would make the top 10, I didn’t want to think I had made it. I didn’t want to be disappointed.”

The quality of the field played in her favor, as she drew veterans George Galletti and Ricky Shabazz. “I was fortunate to draw those guys,” she said. “Both of them did their homework. Both knew where the larger fish were.”

Ironically, her Saturday partner will be Duane Dunstone of Reno, Nev. whose 11-11 catch today vaulted him into 5th place among the pros. Dunstone, who networks with Mike Folkestad, plus co-anglers Jennings-Curtis and Chris Ricci (who cashed as well) are part of what has been laughingly called the “Traveling Folkestad Fishing Team.”

They will carry the banner out tomorrow. Stay tuned.
